Who We Are

Put simply, we are survivors.  We are survivors like you and survivors like the people you know and love.  We’ve both lived through rape and have worked through the painful process of putting our lives back together after the violation.  Not only have we worked to heal ourselves, but we’ve also trained to assist other survivors.  One of us volunteers at her local rape crisis center and the other on a women’s crisis hotline.  We don’t claim to be professionals in the accredited sense of the word, but we are professionals in the survivor sense of the word.    

How S2S Came to Be

Until the spring of 2006, we walked our healing paths independently.  Then, through what can only be described as an incredibly cool twist of destiny (since we live virtually across the country from each other), we met. As our new friendship grew it didn’t take us long to realize that we both felt a strong pull to help fellow survivors, over and above what our volunteer experiences afforded us.  We both longed to create a place where victims could go in order to gain support from those who knew firsthand what they were going through.  A place to learn about resources that weren’t just pulled out of the phone book, but were organizations, websites and books truly helpful to survivors of sexual violence.  A place that would be open and available at three o’clock in the morning, when their local crisis center or counselor may be unavailable.

In another synergistic twist of fate, we discovered that one of us had the seed of this website already germinating in her brain, and that the other had the love of putting ideas into words and onto paper.  In a move that is now typical of us, we jumped into the creation of this site with enough energy and passion to fuel a nuclear submarine.  Numerous long distance phone calls, about a trillion minutes spent instant messaging and about a million emails later, survivor2survivor was born. 

The Person We Couldn’t Have Done It Without

We’ve both been blessed with amazing friends in our lives, and we know just how fortunate we are to have a particularly incredible confidante in our corner.  She’s been a friend in the truest sense of the word, being personally supportive and keeping the S2S dream alive during the years it was merely a concept.  She never wavered in her confidence that the website you see today would come to fruition.  She should be given ALL of the credit in the technology department, as we consider her to be our webmistress extraordinaire.
